We have very important information to tell you about regarding child restraint systems. Almost 800,000 child safety seats are being recalled. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued the recall today and says it involves booster, convertible and infant seats made by Dorel Juvenile Group (DJG). The company is based out of Columbus, Indiana.
The Problem
NHTSA says the main issue has to do with the harness locking and release button. Officials say the button does not always go back to the locked position. When this occurs, the harness adjustment strap can actually slip back through the adjuster if the child moves around in the seat. This basically increases the chance that the harness will become loose, which could make it more likely that a child is injured in a crash.
Dorel says the products in question were made from May of 2008 through April of 2009. Parents should know that the particular models affected have something called a “Center Front Adjuster” for the harness.
The child safety seats were sold under various names including Cosco, Maxi-Cosi and Safety 1st.
