The Consumer Products Safety Commission and Bugaboo International recently announced a recall of around 22,500 Bugaboo Bee strollers because of potentially dangerous defects. Due to flaws in these products’ brakes, the strollers can unexpectedly roll away when left on an incline. So far 121 incidents of brake failure have been reported to the CPSC.
Anyone who has been using a Bugaboo Bee stroller is urged to cease use of it immediately. The company is offering free brake repair kits to everyone who purchased one of the defective products. All customers who registered their products before May 1, 2009 will be receiving their repair kits automatically; others will need to contact Bugaboo International.
If your child has been injured by defective stroller brakes, a repair kit may not be fair compensation for your family’s painful experience. Defective stroller injury lawyer Jeff Killino can provide comprehensive information about your legal options. Call him today at 877-875-2927.
Dangerous Stroller Defects
The recalled Bugaboo Bee strollers are identifiable by the item codes 580210 (on the back of the seat) and 50100 (under the seat). They were sold online and in children’s stores across the US between August 2007 and April 2009. The typical price for one of these strollers was $530.
So far, no injuries caused by the brake defects have been reported to the CPSC. However, reporting injuries to the Commission is generally voluntary, making it difficult to determine how many incidents have truly been caused by a defective product. If you have been using one of the recalled strollers, there is no reason to take chances with your child’s health by continuing to use the product.
A defective stroller can lead to frightening accidents, and may cause major injuries. If your child has been harmed by a defective Bugaboo Bee stroller, you could have grounds for pursuing compensation from the party responsible. You should not have to take on the burden of medical bills, lost income, or other losses caused by another party’s error.
