The Secretary of Transportation has ordered an investigation and study into child safety seats. This is to determine the overall safety of the vehicle, however child safety seats are being looked at very heavily during this review.
Preliminary tests have shown that almost 31 out of 66 child safety seats tested so far did not meet the expectations. The seats failed in the that they either separated from its position, or that it caused injury to a test dummy that was over the recommended level.
Child car seat manufacturers are stating that they believe the seats were installed incorrectly during the tests, and insist that their products protect the safety of children. More information will be released later that will determine the overall safety of child seats on the market today.
