The Iowa State Supreme Court has had a ruling in a case involving injuries to a child.
The case revolves around an incident when an 8 year-old girl was attending a minor league baseball game with her school. As a part of attending the game, signing a permission slip was required. The slip waived the rights of the family if the child was harmed. During the game, one of players was up to bat. While trying to hit a ball, the bat flew out of his hands and struck the girl who was sitting about a hundred feet away near the third base line.
The family of the girl sued stating that the city was negligent and that more supervision should have been provided. It was decided that the permission slip did not release the city from future acts of negligence.
The case has been sent back to District court for more proceedings.
