Toy maker Mattel imported around 900,000 toys that contained lead based paint between September of 2006 and August of 2007. Subsidiary Fischer Price imported around 1.1 million toys with the same problems between July of 2006 and August of 2007. The toys have all been recalled since then, most in the months after August, 2007.
Because of this, a class action lawsuit led by Jeffrey Killino was brought against the companies. As a result, the companies have come to an agreement with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission to pay a $2.3 million civil penalty. The settlement will resolve the lead paint issue as well as other potential matters. The CPSC has since been strengthened to make the ban on lead paint stricter.
