We have some important consumer news to tell you about. A major children’s product company issued a recall of more than 10 million products. The recall involves everything from toys to toddler tricycles and high chairs.
The CPSC says products such as fisher-Price Trike and Tough tricycles can actually cause serious injuries. The agency says the injuries can stem from a fake ignition key. Children can fall or sit on it, which can cause injuries to the genital area. So far as many as 10 injuries have been reported. Six girls in the 2 to 3 year age range have needed medical attention.
High Chairs
There is also an issue with as many as 950,000 Fisher-Price high chairs. The problem centers around pegs located on the back legs of the chairs. Again, children can fall the pegs and get hurt. Models include Healthy Care, Easy Clean and Close to Me high chairs. The CPSC has received 14 reports of problems with seven children having stitches.
Choking hazards
There is also the potential for choking when it comes to some models of toys. Almost 3 million toys including products such as Baby Playzone Crawl and Cruise playground toys, Ocean wonders Kick & Crawl Slide Aquarium toys, as well Baby Gymtastics Play Wall toys are coming under fire. The CPSC says the toys contain a valve on the inflatable ball which can break off. This of course poses a choking hazard for children. In this case as many as 50 incidents have come to the attention of the agency.
I agree with the CPSC, who says companies must be more proactive well before any potentially dangerous toys reach retailers and should have more safety mechanisms in place so children don’t get hurt.
