Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Glide Soother Recall: What’s the Problem?
Fisher-Price recalled the 4-in-1 Rock ‘n Glide Soother on June 3, 2021, after four infants suffocated and died while using this product between April 2019 and February 2020.
The recall also included the Fisher-Price 2-in-1 Soothe ‘n Play Gliders. Although no fatalities have been linked to the Soothe ‘n Play Glider, the CPSC said it also places sleeping babies at risk of suffocation.
The specific products affected by the Fisher-Price recall include:
- Approximately 120,000 4-in-1 Rock ‘n Glide Soothers (model numbers CHP56, CHP55, and CBT81) were sold from January 2014 through December 2020, online and at retail stores nationwide for about $108.
- Around 55,000 2-in-1 Soothe ‘n Play Gliders (model numbers GDD28, GDD39, GDD41, GGW85, GNX43, GVG43, HBD26, and HBD27) sold from November 2018 through May 2021, for about $125, online and at retail stores nationwide.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Fisher-Price for a refund by going online or calling the company toll-free at 855-853-6224 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
Recalled Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Also Linked to Infant Deaths
Just a little over two years ago, Fisher-Price recalled all models of the Rock ‘n Play, an inclined infant sleeper it had introduced just a decade earlier. So far, this dangerous product has been implicated in the deaths of 97 babies.
Fisher-Price isn’t the only company selling potentially deadly inclined nursery products. In fact, more than a half-dozen additional manufacturers have recalled their inclined infant sleepers in the years since the Rock ‘n Play recall:
Kids II Rocking Sleepers
The inclined sleepers included in this recall — around 694,000 Kids II Ingenuity Moonlight Rocking Sleepers and Kids II Bright Starts Playtime to Bedtime Rocking Sleepers – have been linked to five infant deaths since 2012.
The sleepers were sold online at retailers nationwide, including Walmart, Target, and Toys “R” Us, from March 2012 through April 26, 2019, for approximately $40-$80. Consumers who purchased these products were advised to stop using them immediately and contact Kids II to receive a refund or voucher.
Fisher-Price Inclined Sleeper Accessories
This recall involved around 71,000 inclined sleeper accessories included with all models of Fisher-Price Ultra-Lite Day & Night Play Yards. The play yards were sold at juvenile product stores and mass merchandisers nationwide from October 2014 through June 2019 for between $90 and $110.
Consumers should immediately stop using the inclined sleeper accessory and contact Fisher-Price for a refund or voucher. The play yard portion can continue to be used without the inclined sleeper accessory. The included changing station clutch accessory and carry bag are also safe for use.
Dorel Juvenile Group Inclined Sleeper Recall
Dorel Juvenile Group recalled around 24,000 inclined sleepers, including the Disney Baby Doze and Dream Bassinet/Rocker and the Eddie Bauer Slumber and Soothe Bassinet/Rocker. Those products were sold at Target, Kmart, Ross, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and juvenile product stores nationwide from November 2014 through February 2017 for about $60.
Consumers should immediately stop using the inclined sleepers and contact Dorel for a refund in the form of a $60 voucher.
Delta Inclined Sleepers
Delta Enterprise Corp. recalled around 5,900 Inclined Sleepers with Adjustable Feeding Position for Newborns, including:
- Beautyrest Beginnings Incline Sleeper with Adjustable Feeding Position for Newborns
- Disney Baby Minnie Mouse Incline Sleeper with Adjustable Feeding Position for Newborns
- Delta Children Deluxe 3-in-1 Activity Rocker, Feeder and Sleeper
- Simmons Kids Beautyrest Deluxe 3-in-1 Activity Rocker, Feeder, and Sleeper
- 3-in-1 Activity Rocker, Feeder and Incline Sleeper
These products were sold at juvenile product stores and mass merchandisers nationwide, including Amazon.com, Kmart, and ToysRUs.com, from January 2017 through December 2018 for between $42 and $51.
Consumers should immediately stop using these inclined sleepers and contact Delta for a cash refund or voucher.
Evenflo Pillo Portable Napper
Evenflo recalled around 3,100 Pillo Portable Napper inclined sleepers. The inclined nature of these sleeper products could lead a baby to roll over on its side or stomach causing the baby to suffocate. The affected products were sold at juvenile product stores and mass merchandisers nationwide and online, including Target, Kohl’s, Amazon.com, Buy Buy Baby, JC Penney, and Walmart, from May 2017 through January 2020 for about $75.
Consumers who purchased an Evenflo Pillo Portable Napper should immediately stop using the product and contact the company for a cash refund or voucher.
Graco Little Lounger Rocking Seat
Graco recalled around 111,000 Little Lounger Rocking Seats, a two-in-one product that serves as a rocking sleep and portable lounger. Although most of the included products (model numbers 1872034, 1875063, 1875102, 1877160, 1882081, 1896313, 1908957, 1914283, and 2047734) have multiple incline positions, one (model number 1922809) has only a single incline position.
These inclined sleepers were sold at Target, Babies R Us, and other stores nationwide and online at various websites from 2013 through 2018 for about $80. Consumers should immediately stop using the product and contact Graco for a cash refund or a voucher.
Summer Infant Swaddleme by Your Bed Sleepers
Summer Infant recalled around 46,300 Swaddleme by Your Bed Sleepers, a free-standing inclined sleeper sold at juvenile product stores and mass merchandisers nationwide, including Amazon and Buy Buy Baby, from March 2017 through December 2019 for about $99.
Consumers should immediately stop using this inclined sleeper and contact Summer Infant for a cash refund or voucher.
Kolcraft Infant Sleepers
Kolcraft recalled about 51,000 inclined sleeper accessories sold with the Cuddle ‘n Care 2-in-1 Bassinet & Incline Sleeper (model number starting with KB063) and the Preferred Position 2-in-1 Bassinet & Incline Sleeper (model number starting with KB061).
These bassinet and sleeper products were sold at juvenile product stores and mass merchandisers nationwide from March 2011 through December 2017 for about $140.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled inclined sleeper accessory and contact Kolcraft for a refund or voucher that expires on February 20, 2021.
Graco Inclined Sleeper Accessory
Graco recalled around 51,000 inclined sleeper accessories included with the:
- Graco Pack ‘n Play Day2Dream Playard with Bedside Sleeper
- Graco Pack ‘n Play Nuzzle Nest Playard
- Graco Pack ‘n Play Everest Playard
- Graco Pack ‘n Play Rock ‘n Grow Playard
The affected playards were sold at Babies R Us, Buy Buy Baby, and other stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Target.com, and other websites at various times between May 2015 and April 2020 for between $270 and $350.
Consumers should stop using the accessories immediately and contact Graco for a refund of the accessory only.
Make Sure Your Baby Always Sleeps Safe
Earlier this summer, the CPSC voted 3 to 1 to pass a new rule requiring all products designed for sleeping babies to meet mandatory federal standards already in place for cribs, bassinets, and play yards. The new regulations will effectively ban the use of inclined sleepers by limiting the incline of any product intended for sleeping infants under 5-years old to 10 degrees. Some examples of products marketed primarily for sleep which have inclines greater than 10 degrees are:
- Hiccapop DayDreamer
- Baby Delight Go With Me Sway Portable Infant Rocker
- Baby Delight Nestle Nook Comfort Plus Infant Napper
- Chico Lullaby Dream Playard’s inclined napper insert
But because the new standard won’t take effect for another year, numerous manufacturers continue to market inclined sleepers, swings, gliders, and bouncers in the United States. Fisher-Price, for example, is still selling two inclined nursery products – the Sweet Dreams Snugapuppy Deluxe Bouncer and the Sweet Snugapuppy Dreams Cradle ‘n Swing –online and in retail stores nationwide.
To ensure your little one sleeps safely, you should avoid using any type of reclining product when putting them down to nap. It’s also important to:
- Always put your baby to sleep on their back, on a firm, flat surface in a crib, bassinet, or play yard.
- Never add blankets, pillows, or other items to your infants sleep environment.
- Never use infant car seats, bouncers, and other reclining infant products for sleep, and always follow manufacturer instructions when using any nursery product.
- Check cpsc.govoften to see if your nursery products have been recalled, and promptly follow the recall instructions to receive a refund, replacement, or repair.
- Register all nursery products with the manufacturer (registration cards are included with nursery items), so you’ll be contacted directly in the event of a recall.
