Morfboard Scooter Accidents and Injuries
According to a notice posted at the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission’s (CPSC) website on October 21, 2020 this recall involves around 162,300 Morfboard Skate & Scoot Combo scooters with a “Y” handlebar that allows the skateboard to convert to a scooter.
Because of a defective joint, that handlebar could break while in use and cause a kid to fall. Jakks Pacific has received 18 reports of handlebars breaking, including one incident where a child fell and suffered a bloody nose.

How Do I Know if My Child’s Scooter was Recalled?
The recalled Morfboard Skate & Scoot Combo scooters were sold at Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, Meijer, and BJ’s Wholesale Club stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com and morfboard.com from February 2018 through August 2020. The scooters retailed for about $100 and came in a variety of colors, including cyan (blue), chartreuse (yellow), lava (red) and mint (green).
An 8-character alphanumeric manufacturing date code is located on the bottom side of each skate deck that is sold as part of the Skate & Scoot Combo. Only scooters with the following manufacturing date codes are included in the recall: 0049VE01, 0128VE01, 0238VE01, 0328VE01, 0598VE01, 0718VE01, 0878VE01, 1068VE01, 1168VE01, 1278VE01, 1458VE01, 1508VE01,1598VE01, 1858VE01, 2068VE01, 2328VE01, 2398VE01, 2478VE01, 2548VE01, 2508VE01, 2568VE01, 2958VE01, 3198VE01, 3258VE01, 3537VE01, 3628VE01.
Scooter Injuries and Kids
According to the CPSC, 240,000 kids received treatment at an emergency room somewhere in the United States during 2016. Around 27% were hurt while using riding toys, with scooters accounting for about 70% of those injuries.
Some of the most common scooter injuries include:

To reduce the likelihood of scooter-related injuries, parents and caregivers should:
- Make sure kids wear a helmet that meets federal safety standards every time they ride a scooter. Take the time to ensure the helmet is fitted correctly and comfortably.
- Encourage their son or daughter to steer clear of motor vehicles when using a scooter. When a car or truck appears, they should step off the scooter and move to a safe area, such as a lawn, the sidewalk, or the side of the road.
- Have their child wear a brightly colored vest, shirt, or jacket whenever they’re out and about on a scooter. Drivers don’t expect scooters, and bright-colored clothing increases the odds they’ll see a kid in time to avoid an accident.
- Only allow kids to use their scooter during the day. Have them park their scooter once the sun goes down.
